Background
The Wye Valley Walk Partnership is responsible for managing, maintaining and promoting the Walk and has recently succeeded in raising funds to enable significant improvements to the walk, particularly marketing and promoting the Walk.
A new website was an important part of this wider project and the organisation wanted to take advantage of the latest innovations in on-line mapping to improve the user experience.
Solution
Imaginet worked closely with the Partnership to come up with the best ideas for the website. This resulted in an attractive site that utilises web 2.0 technologies to implement a Google Maps mash-up. Key features include:
- A site wide content management system allows extensive content to be added to the site at any time including news, events and essential information on the walk
- A variety of additional databases are also available including Documents, Accommodation, Baggage Transfer points and TICs providing essential information to walkers in the area
- The main feature of the site is the Google Maps functionality:
- Seven walks have been plotted onto the Google Maps API for users to see and zoom in and out like a normal Google map
- Data held in the databases such as Accommodation can be overlayed on the map using tickboxes and allowing users to click on a particular item for more information.
- All data can also be displayed in full below the Google map
